People for the American Way

In 2020, Beverly McIver was invited by the national progressive advocacy organization, People for the American Way, to participate in their “Enough of Trump” campaign, which aimed to use artworks by prominant artists to galvanize voters to take action around one central theme: enough of Trump’s racism, lies, and corruption.

People for the American Way was founded by television producer Norman Lear, who Beverly had the opportunity to meet and paint a portrait of several years later. The portrait is now a part of Washington D.C.’s National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian Institution.

The artwork Beverly created for the “Enough of Trump” campaign in 2020 was used for billboards in North Carolina and New York.

In 2024, Beverly was invited back to participate in the 2024 campaign, “Artists for Democracy.” She has created paintings with an emphasis on the future of women’s reproductive autonomy, encourating people of color to vote, and keeping Trump out of office. VOTE Black Beauty is available as a print or poster from their website.

Beverly has given multiple interviews regarding the 2024 campaign, which can be viewed here.

Additionally, Beverly has collaborated with North Carolina’s Voting Arts Lab, a collective of artists, musicians and other creatives focused on driving voter registration, particularly with young people. Free posters of VOTE! will be distributed by the organization as a part of their voting drives statewide.
